Technology | Microsoft Launched Office Suite For iPad And iPhone

Why Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PPT, Word) is so importance to Apple's iOS? All this while iOS is lacking the support of Microsoft Office that makes entrepreneur inefficient when dealing with files that been created with Microsoft Office and it can't open in iOS environment except by using 3rd party application like SmartOffice to open it. If you use 3rd party apps to edit and send it out, chances are the formating might not be in order. This makes conducting businesses with files from Microsoft Office is not viable when using iOS environment. That is akin iOS as using the "artificial heart and now comes with real heart."

Obviously you can use what Apple has for Office suite replacement like Numbers(which is similar to Excel) and so on. But then again it doesn't has compatiblity with Microsoft Office.

When Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella introduced Microsoft Office suite to Apple's iOS from ground build up who will gain more? Microsoft or Apple?

In monetary sense Microsoft might gain as those users that install Microsoft Office for iPad will have to activate the full version when connect to Office 365 and files are save in OneDrive(previously SkyDrive). So it's portability and the files can be consumed anywhere. The current free Microsoft Office suite for ipad is read only and doesn't allow any editing to be done or create files, in essence it's a viewer. You need to spring for an Office 365 subscription to edit or create files. An Office 365 Home subscription costs $100 per year with usage rights on up to five PCs and five mobile devices included, though Microsoft plans to roll out a $70 per year Office 365 Personal subscription later this spring, which will work with one PC and one tablet. However the Microsoft Office for iPhone is Home version with capability to edit. Microsoft Office suite is said to be dominant and has over a billion users.

On the contrary, it's better late than never and it happened during Tim Cook's era instead of Steve Jobs' era. Nearly seven years after Steve Jobs unveiled the iPhone. With Microsoft Office suite for iPad, the iPad now will become a tool for entrepreneur. In long terms Apple will gain more for purchases of its hardware. This will eventually incorporated in Apple's CarPlay that currently Apple is working with automobiles manufacturers and Office will be there. I expect iPad to grow in demand. I expect more iterations to come including enable printing just like Microsoft did iterations for OneNote for iPad.

1 April 2014: Latest news update...The rate for Class 1 vehicles at the second Penang bridge(Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah Bridge) link is RM8.50 which is 21.4% higher, and this would not help to reduce traffic congestion on Penang Bridge. There is no 20% discount for Touch N' Go card users unlike the Penang Bridge.

Touch N' Go card which allowed Penangnites to enjoy a RM5.60 special rate if they bought the card at the Penang Bridge office over in mainland. Only Penangnites will be entitled to the 20% rebate using Touch N' Go card and motorists must produce their MyKad at the bridge's counter next to the toll plaza as proof of their address. Other car drivers have to pay RM7.
_______________________________________________________________________

The iconic 2nd Penang bridge link has been official opened on 1-March-2014 and operator that managed the bridge is Jambatan Kedua Sdn Bhd(#JKSB). The official name for the second Penang bridge is Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah Bridge and been identified as E28[dual carriageway toll bridge in Penang, Malaysia].

The 24km(15miles) long link, which spans 16.9km(10.5miles) over the water, is said to be the longest bridge in South East Asia. The construction took six years to complete with the construction cost of RM4.5billion. By comparison, the first Penang bridge is 13.5km(8.4miles) long and was opened to public use in 1985. Distance from Batu Kawan interchange to the first Penang bridge toll plaza at Prai is 12km(7.5miles) whilst distance from Batu Maung interchange to the first Penang Bridge interchange in Gelugor is 8.5km(5.3miles).

It's a paid bridge [similar with 1st Penang bridge] and the chargeable quantum rate is not prevail yet as of this writing. At the moment, the 2nd Penang bridge is free for public use till 31-March-2014. As for the toll rate to Bandar Cassia where the second Penang bridge located, Class 1 vehicles, from Juru toll to Bandar Cassia is RM1.40, RM0.50 (from Bukit Tambun), RM1.40 (from Jawi), RM15.40 (from Ipoh Utara) and RM41.90 (from Jalan Duta).

It serves as a development influx and catalyst for economic growth for south Seberang Prai(#SPS). Future establishment will be IKEA, Hull University. Moving forward, Penang third link serves as a development influx and catalyst for economic growth for north Seberang Prai(#SPU). Refer to One Penang, Two halves, Three links...what is it for me as investor/developer?

For more details on the 2nd Penang bridge refer to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sultan_Abdul_Halim_Muadzam_Shah_Bridge

Word of caution: Although the second Penang bridge is exempted from payment as of now, you still need to scan your Touch-N-Go card at Bandar Cassia toll booth [or get cash card] before exit otherwise you'll encounter scanning issue when you reach Juru toll or other NSE toll booths.

The excrept was from The Food Book by Lonely Planet that schedule for publication on February 14 2014 based on article written by Robin Barton. He further eloborate that although Malaysian hawker food has spread worldwide through "food trucks and pop-ups", nothing compared it with the actual experience of eating in Penang. "Its food reflects the intermingling of the many cultures that arrived after it was set up as a trading port in 1786, from Malays to Indians, Acehnese to Chinese, Burmese to Thais. State capital George Town is its culinary epicentre," he said.

CNN Travel, in November 2013, had also named Penang as having one of the best street foods in Asia under article titled George Town, Penang: Asia’s greatest street food city? http://travel.cnn.com/george-town-penang-asias-greatest-street-food-city-657636

Second reason: Retire in Penang | Penang has been ranked third for the best place in the world to retire in their 2013 survey done by International Living http://internationalliving.com/2012/12/the-worlds-top-retirement-havens-in-2013/and their correspondent Keith Hockton just published an article Escape To A Tropical Island (And Live On USD1,500 A Month) http://internationalliving.com/2014/02/escape-to-a-tropical-island-and-live-on-1500-a-month/. In the article Thomas O'Neal discovered by himself how the choice he made is a prudence and wise move. "I figured that I’d take a chance and move lock, stock, and barrel. I could have just visited but where is the fun in that?, he said. Adding further "I rent a 1,600-square-foot apartment with an amazing pool, just five minutes’ walk from the ritzy Gurney Plaza shopping mall. It costs me just USD850 a month. I don’t need a car either so I’m saving money left, right and center. I love the weather—82 F on average—and Malaysia’s closeness to Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos. When you combine that with a cost of living of USD1,500 per month including my rent, it’s almost unbeatable," says Thomas.
